Coastlands Aquatic Centre
Project Description
The Kāpiti Coast District Council commissioned Eden Design to create a donor wall honouring donors who contributed financially to the new swimming complex for the Kapiti Coast region. Each donor purchased varying tiles from Blue, Bronze, Silver, and Gold.
The Objective:
Create two donor walls, one for the East foyer wall representing the Tararua’s, the second for the West foyer wall representing Kapiti Island. Each tile category must be represented in accordance with the amount the donor contributed e.g. Blue having the lowest value, Gold having the highest value. Work within the boundaries of the chosen substrate, printed stainless steel. Bring colour to the interior that will otherwise be lacking for some time.
The Idea:
An oversized pixel artwork that enables each donor to have a dedicated mosaic tile, contributing as individual tiles to make up the whole.
The Solution:
A tight brief and challenging project on many fronts, from the number of donors to incorporate, to specific tile size requirements, the substrate material, and need for longevity in a public space. Hannah worked with a team of donor co-ordinators and installation experts to make this project happen. The result is a vibrant entrance to the new facilities, with a simple artwork approach to help avoid a dated look in years to come.
