Nelson Airport FIDS
Project Description
Nelson Airport have gone through a multi-million-dollar upgrade of their airport terminal. As part of this upgrade, Symbiant Systems were commissioned to design and develop new high-end flight information display systems (FIDS). Eden Design’s role was to provide design solutions that meet the objectives.
The Objective:
As New Zealand’s fifth busiest airport, consider how the viewing and interpretation of information can speed up the travellers’ journey. Produce a suite of FIDS that work with the stunning architecture of the new terminal including a large arrivals / departures screen and departure gate screens.
The Solution:
This project explored various concepts and required a rigorous design development phase around how to move the traditional solari concept onto a modern digital platform.
Clear easy to read displays can be read by travellers from across the terminal, enabling quick and easy direction to key flight information. The modern solari interpretation complements the black architectural accents and dramatic herringbone roof feature. The new FIDS design is tailored to Nelson Airports flight volumes and this can be applied to other regional airports around the country.
