KCDC Tsunami Zones
Project Description
Kāpiti Coast District Council worked with volunteers to door-knock over 8000 homes in the Kāpiti tsunami evacuation zones. People living in a tsunami evacuation zone at the time received a knock on the door from Council reps and volunteers handing out information for tsunami preparedness.
The Objective:
The communications must be clear and engaging and highlight critical information for home owners in the Tsunami Zone – the warning signs of tsunami, what to do, and where to go if one hits the Kāpiti Coast. The look and feel must be aligned to the overall Council brand but retain it's own recognisable campaign feel.
The Solution:
Originally the brief required the information to fit onto a smaller brochure. Following suggestions to avoid a very text heavy solution, the presentation of information was revised to ensure engagement of home owners.
Each page presents a visual narrative - bite-sized pieces of critical information - aiding higher readership by home owners. Supporting icons were created to emphasise key information and Kāpiti-focused photographs add colour and a local personal touch. The colour palette draws from the Council palette to ensure brand consistency.
It is understood the campaign was a success. Those in the evacuation zone are now more informed to be tsunami-prepared, and many refrigerators across the district have been found to be sporting the tsunami information!
